Who do you run for and what events are you going to be running in at state?
I run for Nathan Hale High School and I'll be doing the 110m and 300m hurdles.
Who do you most look forward to running against and why?
I probably most look forward to running against Taylor Schmidt, since he's right behind me and getting better at every meet. Hopefully we will have a tough and close race together at state!
Do you play any other sports?
No. I have done track as long as i can remember, it must be about 10 years now. And i do it for a club so it's not just one season sport, we do it all year around. Now when I'm here in the US and you have school sports and do them only for one season per year, I decided to try football. So this is my first (and probably only) year i havent done track the entire year.
Where do you plan on going to college? I dont know yet about that college thing. I know for sure I have to go back to Finland and finish my high school there. Then I can choose whether I want to stay there or come back here for college. It's going to be a hard decision, but luckily I have at least one more year to decide.
Wherever you end up in college, do you plan on running track at that level?
Well the thing is, that in Europe it's all club sports and they have nothing to do with the schools. I have not decided yet if I will keep on doing it for that long, but seems like everybody else has done it for me. So I think I will, since I have so good chances to go futher.
Overall, briefly describe your experience here in the US?
My experience has been just great! It is hard to describe it that briefly haha, but I met so many people that have become really important to me, and i will never forget anything what happened here. Plus I also learned some English at the same time. It feels like i have been here all my life. I just wish I could stay at least a little longer.
How is the track competition here compared to back in Finland?
Well it depends what event. In the 100m dash the competition here is a lot better than there for sure. And in sprints overall I think. It's hard to say about other events because I don't know what is good and not. But in hurdles the competition is probably a tiny bit better in Finland, but I have also improved A LOT since my last season. I would say it's about the same now at this level, but when you look at professionals there's hardly any from my country and at least 50 Americans haha.
